I visited the beautiful island of Shikinejima, one of the hidden gems of the Izu Islands of Japan, administrated by Tokyo. Known for its peaceful beaches, clear ocean water, and relaxing island atmosphere, Shikinejima is a perfect destination for travelers who enjoy nature and outdoor adventure. As someone who loves hiking and exploring quiet places, I naturally searched for a hiking spot while visiting the island, and that is how I discovered Kambiki Observatory.

Mt. Kambiki is only 99 meters high, but the experience felt far more rewarding than its small elevation might suggest. Located on the peaceful island of Shikinejima, the observatory offers stunning 360-degree panoramic views of the island and surrounding ocean. Sometimes the best hiking experiences are not about climbing high mountains, but about finding simple trails that connect you closely with nature.

Hiking Trail Of  Mt.Kambiki

The trail of Mt.kambiki itself was short, beginner-friendly, and very relaxing, which made it enjoyable from the very beginning. The trail passed through beautiful greenery, and the peaceful island atmosphere made the walk feel refreshing rather than tiring. What I really liked was seeing not only hikers but also kids and aged visitors enjoying the path comfortably at their own pace. It gave the trail a warm and welcoming feeling for everyone. Near the top, the path became a little rocky, but with normal care and careful steps, there was nothing to worry about.

View From The Mt.kambiki Observatory

One of the most memorable parts of the hike was finally reaching Kambiki Observatory. Even though the mountain stands only 99 meters above sea level, the view from the top was surprisingly impressive and completely worth the walk. The observatory offered a beautiful panoramic view across Shikinejima, surrounded by the endless blue ocean and peaceful island scenery. From the top, I could also see other islands of the Izu chain, including Nijima, Toshima, and Oshima, which made the experience even more special. Standing there with the cool ocean breeze and open sky, I could clearly see the island’s natural landscape, coastline, and the deep blue Pacific Ocean stretching into the distance. It was one of those quiet moments where you simply stop walking, look around, and appreciate the peaceful beauty that makes Shikinejima such a special place.
